Training with the Texas chapter of navhda is informative, fun and a great way to meet people. We help each other along the way to get the most out of our dogs.

The next training event will be saturday, June 18.

All members will receive an email with details. If you don’t see the email in your inbox, check your Spam.

What are Training Days -

An opportunity for you to gain knowledge on how to work with and train your dog, share your knowledge and experience with others, and learn about NAVHDA testing expectations.

What happens at a Training Day event:

  • Training days focus on equipping owners and handlers with the skills necessary to work with your dog on your own to the levels of success you desire. This is key, we focus on training you.

  • Owners and handlers work together on various activities in the field and water. (searching, pointing, steadiness, tracking, retrieving on land and water, heeling, recall, cooperation).

  • Training takes place on extremely large fields that offer the necessary cover to have productive searches and hold birds. The water is excellent for introducing new dogs to swimming and challenge mature dogs on their water search.

  • Training takes advantage of the chapter owned equipment (bumpers, launchers, heeling stakes, blinds)

  • Blanks and live fire are used in the process of training. If you have a dog that is gun sensitive or has not been introduced to fire, precautions can be made so you can participate without fear of stressing your dog.

Who leads the training activities?

The Texas Chapter EC coordinates the location and activities taking place at each month’s training event. The Texas Chapter Director of Field Tests and Training provides direction for the activities. The Chapter members assist in leading training activities where they are proficient.
